EDQM visit March 2024

We are delighted to announce that our next event is a study trip to the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines and HealthCare (EDQM) in Strasbourg on Friday 8th March 2024. Please click here to book your ticket.

For spring 2024 MedNet are offering a special one-day study visit to the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines and HealthCare (EDQM) in Strasbourg on Friday 8th March. This will differ from our general workshops, can only be offered as an in-person event, and should be a great opportunity for those of us who use or wish to use the EDQM Standard Terms or other resources on a regular basis.

As the EDQM has generously waived room fees and MedNet also wishes to subsidise the event for the benefit of members, the registration fee is only £50. In addition, please note the following:

  • Places on this event are absolutely limited to 25 participants due to EDQM’s capacity. While we do want to encourage anyone interested to attend, please consider carefully whether you can commit to the date and do not take a place if you are unsure at this stage. You must book a ticket and we cannot grant any refunds after 1st February unless someone else from the waiting list is able to take your place.
  • The registration fee will cover the costs of all refreshments on the Friday, including lunch at the EDQM and dinner at a restaurant, details TBC.
  • You will be responsible for booking your own travel and accommodation. As MedNet is subsidising this event for all participants and we will not have a workshop/glossary component, the usual bursaries will not be applicable.
  • The booking form includes a question on whether or not you would prefer to arrange your own accommodation or join a group booking at a hotel selected by MedNet. Whether or not we do this, and the cost thereof, will depend on the interest in this option. We will let you know as soon as we have more information on this.

The following arrangements have been made and we are grateful to our committee member Tom Gale who took a job at EDQM a couple of years ago and offered to organise this event.

The day will begin with two presentations in the morning – one from Tom Gale on translation at the EDQM and the other from Chris Jarvis on Standard Terms, with a coffee break in between. This will be followed by lunch at the EDQM “restaurant”, which might be canteen style. In the afternoon we are splitting into two groups (hence the restriction of numbers) to do a tour of the lab & DRSL Production, swapping over in between.

Plans for the late afternoon and dinner are taking shape, and you will receive information on this closer to the time.

As explained, you MUST book a ticket to participate. Only 25 people can join us and there will be a waiting list if there is more interest. Please be mindful of that and cancel as soon as you know that you cannot make it after all. It would be unfair to fellow members who might then be able to attend but might have difficulty making late travel arrangements.

Travel: We encourage everyone to car-share or go by train. We will open a thread on Groups.io for people to share their travel plans and connect with potential travel buddies. If flying is unavoidable, you can find direct flights to Strasbourg from London Gatwick. An alternative destination might be Basel/Freiburg from where you could take a train.

Getting to EDQM: The “European Quarter” is a little out of the city centre so a 10-minute tram ride would be in order – you can actually get 24hr passes for 3 people, so that could make things cheaper if people buddy-up.

Accommodation is probably nicer in the old part of town and again will be cheaper if people team up and share. Please indicate on the registration form for this event whether you would be interested in joining a group booking made by MedNet (additional cost to be invoiced separately if we proceed with that option).
