October 2023 Workshop: AI & Radiology

The next ITI Medical & Pharmaceutical Network will be on Friday 6 October 2023, on the topic of AI and radiology. The workshop will be hosted at William Osler House, located on the campus of the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, and also streamed via Zoom for those who cannot make it in person. Please click here to book your ticket.

Our two speakers are Dr. Bartek Papiez, a specialist in machine learning and AI at the Big Data Institute in the University of Oxford and Dr. Alex Novak, Clinical Specialist Advisor, Emergency Medicine, Oxford University Hospitals, Associate Professor at the Royal College of Emergency Medicine and Lead Consultant for Emergency Medicine Research Oxford (EMROx) in the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Dr. Papiez focuses his research on the development of accurate, complex, and realistic, but computationally efficient models of organ motion, which he has used to establish a solid foundation for reliable quantitative cancer image analysis. He works with Dr. Novak, who is interested in AI-enhanced imaging and how this contributes to disease diagnosis, prognostication, and management. Dr. Novak previously worked as a General Practitioner and has now shifted his focus to developing research in the acute healthcare sector. His strategic work seeks to offer an alternative paradigm to the disease/organ centred outlook which has hitherto dominated clinical research.

More information about our two speakers can be found here:

As usual, the day will consist of two presentations by our speakers, followed by language workshop groups which will focus on translation of pre-selected journal articles and terminology, with the opportunity to ask the speaker any questions. (Unfortunately it is not logistically or practically feasible to include the language groups as a remote option.)
